Mission of Kalambist
This Parish is situated at the foot of the Amboli Ghats within the taluka of Sawantwadi. The rural mission area of Karude, Kalambist, Deosar, Danoli and Amboli were offered to the Fransalians by the Bishop of Poona, Rt. Rev. Valerian D'Souza. After the division of the Diocese of Poona, this mission area comes within the Diocese of Sindhudurg under the jurisdiction of Bishop Allwyn Barreto Fr. Joe Fernandes and Fr. Johnson Gonsalves were the first Fransalian missionaries to minister in this region. After the transfer of Fr. Johnson, Fr. Joe managed the ministry to the people alone. He is remembered for his deep social understanding towards the people in general. He exercised his pastoral services by endearing himself to people of different communities and beliefs. To assist the poor, he was able to generate local help to give the village people some business of their own. Kalambist is well known for its annual Sneha-Melava. The Holy Cross feast on the Amboli Ghats has drawn pilgrims from distant places. The priest residence is situated at Kalambist besides St. Anthony's Chapel and all the other centres are served from here. The present parish Priest is Fr. Anthony D'souza msfs
