Christ the King Parish, Khopoli

To assist the idea of mission expansion in the remote areas of Maharashtra, the proposal to accept the Parish of Khopoli and the centre at Karjat was place before the Archbishop of Bombay, Simon Cardinal Piementa. This wish was granted.

Fr. Vincent Lourdeswamy and Fr. Timothy Raj formed the first Fransalian team to minister to the people of the area. Beside the pastoral services offered in Khopoli, the celebration of the pilgrim feast of Our Lady of Lourdes at Karjat in the month of October was a very special event. People came on pilgrimage from all places around Karjat especially from Mumbai.

In the year 2004, the Archbishop of Bombay, Ivan Cardinal Dias, found it necessary to take back the centre of Karjat and to appoint a Diocesan priest incharge of the mission. The Fransalians continue to minister in the parish of Holy Redeemer, Khopoli. Besides large attendance for this feast, the highlight of the ministry is the annual festival mela conducted in the month of January. The present parish team includes FRS.
